more response to destruction

lovely door from old rail station..
housing to be demolished
some of it a Victorian apartment..two issues.. 40 or so people who are disenfranchised for a big box retail store..and architecture/history lost forever..and an ugly new street corner that resembles every where else..
our coop..which shall remain...a work in progress :-)
Luciano..lucky early morning crooner
Some more art in response to needless demolition..

old railway station owned by city and going to ruin..
although the graffiti is at least a creative response ..

Foundry... Lost

Foundry... Lost

from a new series of mixed media paintings featuring local heritage buildings which have been destroyed without thought or planning..in one case a hotel from the 1800's was demolished to literally create parking space! This particular painting features a recently destroyed 1853 foudry which apparently was Canada's first poured-in-place concrete structure ! A mysterious fire of late caused the owner to make a hasty plea to city council for demolition permit! As it wasn't officially designated historical..the permission was granted and alas the building is gone! To add to this travesty..the owner owns an entire block of low income housing units including a Victorian apartment ..which will be trashed to make way for a big box pharmacy! Some 40+ tenants will lose their housing..and ugliness prevails..Numerous complaints/newspaper items have fallen on deaf ears..

So I make art!

autumn autumn art

Thinking about new directions,concepts..so difficult to pull away from my comfort Zone. I have been dismayed, frustrated and saddened by so much destruction of historical buildings in my locale so am thinking of a visual response to this sad state of affairs..

I am feeling energized by art and intrigued by response to my newer works..I never realized cows /chickens as subjects would be of so much interest to others..hmmm...do what you love and..

I spent my last weekend near Markdale in the Autumn leaves Studio tour...over 400 folks passed through..whew! I needed to create more smaller pieces for this weekend's escarpment tour..a lovely dillema..
